Coincident GPR and ultra-shallow seismic imaging in the Arkansas River Valley, Great Bend, Kansas
نویسنده
چکیده
The primary objective of the work-in-progress reported here is to compare near-surface imaging results using ultra-shallow (upper 3 m) seismic-reflection techniques and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) at an alluvial site near Great Bend, Kansas. Although various seismic and GPR surveys have been used for near-surface imaging, little i s known about how the two techniques might work in concert for very-high-resolution surveys at depths where both techniques work well. We show examples from the test site demonstrating that imaging is possible in the 1to 6-m range using both seismic and GPR techniques and then discuss the implications of each.

The Effect of River Valleys and the Upper Cretaceous Aquitard on Regional Flow in the Dakota Aquifer in the Central Great Plains of Kansas and Southeastern Colorado
In his reports on the regional hydrogeology of the central Great Plains, in particular southeastern Colorado and southwestern and central Kansas, Darton considered the Dakota aquifer to be a classic example of an artesian system. Computer simulations of the flow system in this study, however, suggest that the Dakota is not a regional artesian aquifer in the classic sense. Sensitivity analysis o...
متن کاملCharacterization of a geothermal system in the Upper Arkansas Valley, CO
The past four years, geophysics students and faculty from Colorado School of Mines and Boise State University have studied the subsurface in the Upper Arkansas Valley, Colorado, using a combination of geological and geophysical methods. Here, we present and integrate their results from seismic, self-potential and gravity data, as well as water temperature measurements in local wells to ascertai...

Geophysical techniques coupled with the modern computer workstation have not been widely used in environmental geology. The Kansas Geological Survey is investigating the application of the computer workstation in a number of projects underway that involve environmental questions and problems associated with salt dissolution. The computer workstation provides an efficient approach to integrate g...
متن کاملP-wave seismic source comparison on a Kansas River point bar simulating Sable Island, Canada
Among the many choices made in designing a seismic survey, the type of source selected for that particular environment is one of the most important. This paper provides preliminary comparisons of the overall effectiveness of several sources on a point bar. This particular environment was selected to simulate Sable Island, located off the east coast of Canada, as closely as possible. The near-su...

—The eastern metapopulation of the American White Pelican ( Pelecanus erythrorhynchos ) breeds mainly in the Northern Great Plains, migrates through the Great Plains and along the Mississippi River and winters in the lower Mississippi River Valley and along the Gulf of Mexico. The production of farm-raised Channel Catfish ( Ictalurus punctatus ) in the southeastern United States has increased d...
